🎭 Mastering the Monologue: An Acting Workshop Series focusing on Monologues

As The Stage Club celebrates eight decades of theatre in Singapore, we invite you to be part of its living legacy. Building on the momentum of our recent workshops — and the sold-out success of the Theatre Showcase — we’re proud to present our 2026 Mastering the Monologue, a workshop series spotlighting the art of the monologue. Whether performing a published piece or bringing an original story to life, participants will work towards a dynamic live showcase — bold, intimate, and full of heart.

Join us, and step into the spotlight with craft, presence, and a newfound mastery.

🎯 ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

This series of workshops guides participants through a structured journey from voice, movement, and character work to the selection, development, and performance of a monologue, blending personal storytelling with theatrical techniques. It culminates in a live showcase, offering anyone with a thirst for creative growth a supportive space to refine their craft and collaborate creatively.

From curious beginners to experienced actors — this is where your next chapter begins. The stage will be yours to explore, stretch, and shine under the gentle guidance of established theatre director Susie Penrice Tyrie and writing coach Cat Kulkarni.

And here’s the clincher: your monologue won’t just stay on the page — it will come to life in a professionally directed showcase, performed before a live audience. With six ticketed shows, you’ll gain the rare chance to refine your piece in real time, learning, adapting, and growing with each performance — a true, hands-on immersion into the craft of theatre.

This is more than just a workshop. It’s your chance to:

🎭 Explore voice, movement, character, and text interpretation

🎭 Sharpen your acting instincts

🎭 Push your performance to the next level

🎭 Tell your story, your way

🎭 (Optional) Work with a writing coach to compose your own monologue, shaping it into a compelling piece for performance

🎭 (Optional) Rehearse and perform a short monologue or original piece .

You’ll get to shape a bold, honest, and unforgettable performance — perfect for the stage and future auditions.

Chief Workshop Facilitator

Susie Penrice Tyrie is a highly experienced actor, director and producer. Most recently, Susie led two highly successful workshops on stage directing and acting, both of which culminated in a sold-out six-show run of 80 x 80 Theatre Showcase featuring original classics. But much like Stage Club itself, Susie has an impressive history across all elements of theatre. This goes back to her early training at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. After a short time in theatre and radio in Scotland, she moved to London and worked behind the scenes at TVam and GMTV. Now in Singapore, she has come back to the theatre. Susie has been on stage in productions by Cantio, Drama-Arts, Open Stage, The O.P.E.N.. A founding member of Wag the Dog and Pachyderm Theatres, she has also directed many productions locally including, Calendar Girls, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Gruesome Playground Injuries, The Arsonists, Queers 1 & 2, short Tamil plays for Pathey Nimidam and recently for The Stage Club - Measure for Measure and Shakespeare in Love.

Writing Coach

Catherine “Cat” Kulkarni is a storyteller at heart. Since joining Stage Club in 2023, she has brought characters to life in a variety of roles, most memorably as Judge Brack in Hedda Gabler—a role that deepened her love for character work and inspired her as an actor. An avid writer since childhood, Cat’s passion for the written word saw her through self-publishing two books in primary school to writing scripts and performing for her high school’s TV station. Later, she was selected for an exclusive artist-in-residence programme with Tony Award-winning playwright Mark Medoff - an experience that continues to shape her creative voice. Cat’s writing spans genres—from poetry and skits to screenplays,  including a two-part original pilot for a Star Trek series. Her stories often delve into what happens after major life events—how people survive, adapt, and begin again. Cat brings a unique blend of authenticity, imagination, and emotional insight to her writing—and to the workshop space. She’s looking forward to helping participants uncover and bring their stories to life on the page and stage!
